School Bus Roof Torn Off In Bridge Smash
The youngsters, from a school in Nottingham, were treated for cuts and bruises, according to Leicestershire police.
The other children on the bus are being “supported and assessed for possible shock”, a spokeswoman said.
Two adult casualties are also being treated at Leicester Royal Infirmary for minor injuries.
The top of the bus almost completely came off as it hit the railway bridge in thick fog shortly before 10.30am.
Steve Robinson-Day from Leicestershire’s Fire Service told Sky News the situation was calm when emergency services arrived and that the teachers had already evacuated the children from the bus.
He added, “It did so much damage to the bus, it’s amazing really that there were no more serious injuries.”
The children that were not taken to hospital waited for their parents to collect them from a university nearby.
The accident took place near the junction of Tigers Way and Lancaster Road in Leicester
